a new copy of the ESV Study Bible (links to the hardcover, versus my soft one.) I have the regular version, but since this one in particular has been often mentioned by the head pastor of our church, I decided to pick it up.
I highly recommend it for anyone interested in learning more about the history behind the Bible (and eventually learn that making excuses against it with the Apocrypha is absolutely ridiculous.) Translation, editing, and additional interpretation and clarification is done by a ~100 man group, consisting of your usual bright theologian minds from Cambridge, Liverpool, Oxford, Fuller, King’s College, University of London, etc.
There are even pictures! Frequent maps and items of Old Testament worth, it is highly detailed. It promises to be a very clear and insightful read–and if you know me, you will know how I adore the succinct modern English employed in the ESV translation.
I am probably the only one on this blog that is excited for this kind of thing, aren’t I? But, it is nevertheless something worth sharing.
